I've been on birth control for almost a month,
during which I've had no sex drive/gotten nothing out of sex
been very, very depressed and cried nearly every day,
also most days I started out feeling optomistic and happy
then about mid/early day depending on when I got up
(I took the pill every morning when I first wake up)
feeling absolutely terrible emotionally.
I didn't take the pill today and feel rediculously better.
wondered if any one else had a similar experience
also if any one knew of good alternitives that wouldn't produce the same effect
(maybe the shot or something?)
or if it would all be the same b/c of similar or the same hormones/dosage etc

Hi Folks,
There are several calls to action contained within this blog entry. I've el-jay cut the bulk of the content, so see below.
PLEASE CALL Your Senators and the White House TODAY and urge them to support the following:
1.) Please call or write the White house Comments Line at: 202-456-1111
Or via the net at: http://www.whitehouse.gov/CONTACT/
You don't need to leave your name or address at the White House, as they do not take that information.
Ask President Obama to remain committed to reproductive freedom and Pro-Choice. Tell him that while you would prefer the Hyde Amendment to be repealed, the current language put forward in the Senate version of the health care reform is something that you can live with in the short term, provided that the Stupak Amendment restrictions are permanently REMOVED in the FINAL BILL as signed into law by the President. Remember to inform the White House that you DO NOT support the Hyde Amendment and that you feel that the current language is AT BEST A COMPROMISE THAT STILL UNDERMINES WOMEN'S HEALTH. Tell them that you will be working with both national and grassroots organizations in the future to REPEAL the Hyde Amendment.
2.) Please also support the following Pro Choice Presidential Nominees:
a.) Tell President Obama that you are happy that the Senate confirmed Pro-Choice Judge Hamilton to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals yesterday. This is GREAT news for Pro Choice supporters, because Judge Hamilton was crucial in overturning a parental notification law in Indiana in 2001.
b.) Tell President Obama that you are supportive of Pro Choice Attorney Dawn Johnsen being appointed to President Obama's Office of Legal Counsel . Currently, she is three votes shy of confirmation in the Senate and has been facing obstruction to her post by conservative Republicans.
c.) Tell President Obama that you are supportive of the appointment of openly lesbian candidate, Chai Feldblum, to the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission [EEOC]. Feldblum is Pro-Choice and was instrumental in authoring language for the the American's with Disabilities Act [ADA] and the Employment Non-Discrimination Act [ENDA]. Feldblum has passed her confirmation hearings and is expected to be voted on in the Senate by the end of next month.
2.) Call your Senators and tell them that you phoned the White House and repeat similar comments as above.
Sign the NARAL Online Petition to encourage the Senate to Confirm Dawn Johnsen, which can be found here.
Remember to leave your name and address with your Senator's Office, so that they can confirm that you vote.
3.) Sign the White House and Senate Pro-Choice Online petitions and if you can do so, RALLY IN WASHINGTON, DC on DEC. for reproductive freedom!
Excerpts from the Senator Reid's Health Care Bill regarding the abortion language can be found beneath the cut, as well as a link to the recent analysis by George Washington Law School regarding the long term negative impact of the Stupak Amendment on abortion services and women's health.

Hi everyone. I'm looking for some new friends to talk to. If you like good conversation, we may hit it off. I'm married so not looking for a relationship or anything. Family and friends are important to me. I love Christmas, coffee, music, the net, and just relaxing. I'm a country music buff but I enjoy most other types too. I cheer for the Toronto Maple Leafs, don't laugh. As an editor I do prize good grammar and spelling, but it is not necessary. Big Bang Theory has to be the funniest TV show invented, and I'm a sucker for Brothers and Sisters too. If any of this gives us any common ground, I'd love to chat. I'm looking for people to meet and interesting journals to read for the long haul. Be advised that my journal contains great amounts of swearing! Hope to hear from some of you.
I'm at a point where if I buy new, I buy organic clothes because I know too much about how fabric is made to buy conventional cotton. And sometimes I see cute printed organic shirts with like "recycle" or other messages screen printed on.
My dad gave me an article about water-based inks used in screen printing and I was surprised to learn they are really bad ecologically, even worse than conventional plastisol inks. So I started to wonder if that's something other people actually think about when they buy their clothes. I see printed organic cotton or hemp shirts in the store and I wonder about the inks they use and if it is counter acting the point of the shirt.
How much weight do you put on such things like ink when you are purchasing clothes? I know a lot of us only shop thrift, but if you are looking at new stuff, what do you think?
Like, if there is an organic shirt but it's printed with conventional ink, would it keep you from buying it? Or if you had the option between a shirt with conventional plastisol ink vs PVC-free plastisol ink, would you definitely want the PVC-free plastisol printed organic shirt? I was really surprised to find out that plastisol inks are really low maintenance for clean up and there is hardly any waste product at all because the surplus ink can be put back in a container and used again and it won't dry out.
It's random, I know, but I was just wondering where other people draw the line.

"You have to tell it something," Alice Andrews says, and takes a long drink from her coffee. We're sitting on the boulder-rocks at harbor point, watching freighters disappear into the earth-curve.
"'Who am I? What am I?' All I want to tell the world is 'get a life, and let me fucking be,'" I say.
We're talking about "individual life" versus "social life." The shape and line of who we are, alive without a social definition -- versus -- the empty box of life defined to death by social role.
"Then say that," Alice says. "And don't submit your indie-self, for confession."

A recent medical research strongly suggests that wearing a cell phone on your hip may weaken an area of your pelvis. Using an X-ray technique used in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with osteoporosis, researchers measured pelvic bone density in 150 men who regularly carried their cell phones attached to their belts.
The men carried their phones for an average of 15 hours each day; they had used cell phones for an average of six years.
The researchers found that bone mineral density was lowered on the side of the pelvis where the mobile phones were carried. The findings raise the possibility that bone density could be adversely affected by electromagnetic fields emitted by cell phones.

SECRET LINK BETWEEN CIGARETTES & CELL PHONES
**************************************** *****
Cell phones are used by an estimated 275 million people in the United States and 4 billion worldwide.
A recent review of studies assessed whether there was epidemiologic evidence for an association between long-term cell phone usage and the risk of developing a brain tumor.
In order to be included in the analysis, studies were required to have been published in a peer-reviewed journal, included participants who had used cell phone for 10 or more years, and analyzed the side of the brain tumor relative to the side of the head preferred for cell phone usage. Eleven long-term epidemiologic studies fit the criteria.
The results indicated that using a cell phone for 10 or more years approximately doubles the risk of being diagnosed with a brain tumor on the same side of the head as that preferred for cell phone use.
Iowa senator Tom Harkin, newly empowered to investigate health matters as chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, has promised to probe deeply into any potential links between cell phone use and cancer.
Harkin, who took over the committee after the death of Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy, said he was concerned no one has been able to prove cell phones do not cause cancer. A staffer said the senator became concerned by a report from the Environmental Working Group showing that radio wave emissions vary from one cell phone brand and model to another, as well as some reports suggesting there might be a link.

As cell phone minutes increase, sperm count decreases. So says research from the journal of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. Compared to other men, those who chat on their phones for more than four hours a day had lower average sperm count and fewer viable sperm. Though there may be a connection, the same researchers continue to investigate whether electromagnetic radiation is the cause of the dip in sperm production or if lifestyle and occupational factors may affect men's output.

Hello,
I've gone through the memories and tag for essential oils but couldn't find answers for these specific questions, I hope to find some help from anyone knowledgeable in essential oil use.
1) I've read that the best dilution is 2%, about 12 drops of essential oil to an ounce of carrier oil. I'd like to know if this is the combined amount of essential oils in a blend or if it is per essential oil. I've gone to a site that has some recipes and it had instructions that specify 12 drops per essential oil but then I found a recipe for a Decleor Ylang Ylang Oil dupe which specifies 12 drops of essential oil in total. Which is right?
2) I'd like to make a facial oil meant for oily skin but I wonder if it is overkill to have more than 2 types of essential oil that is astringent? What would be a 'safe' number of essential oils to use in a blend?
3) In the instance that it is to the point of drying, would applying Aloe Vera gel on the skin after using the oil blend be beneficial?
4) This is the blend that I'm considering:
Grape Seed Oil
Ylang Ylang
Rosemary
Geranium
Frankincense
Meadowfoam Seed Oil (more for preservative purposes)
Other EOs and oils that I can get from the same store and am considering:
Lavender, Cedar wood, Kukui nut, Sea Buckthorn, Emu Oil, Grapefruit, Bergamot
I'd like a less oily complexion along with improving the old acne scars that I have. I've heard great things about the Decleor Aromaessence Ylang Ylang oil but it's quite expensive and figured that if I create my own blend it would be cheaper.
Thank you.

So I have an avocado rotting on my counter. i'm eating half of it with a black bean burger tomorrow night, but I had an idea for the other half. I have always heard that it does wonders for hair, and a kid that I teach always rubs her hand in her hair after lunchtime, usually smearing avocado all over her head, and her hair is great (she's one, so of course her hair is just naturally perfect). But the problem is I don't know exactly what I would do with the avocado. Do I just smash it and then moosh it in my hair? Should my hair be wet first? Do I keep it in five minutes or overnight? Or is it just a bad idea?
Thank You!
Thank You!
Does anyone have any experience with castor oil making hair thicker or darker?
Or did anyone who has used it specifically for this reason find that it didn't work?
I am specifically wonder about eyelashes and eyebrows (and facial hair for the men), but if you have experience with any hair, info would be nice!
Thanks!

Hello to all, I'm Monica. I'm 21, a mommy, a biology major at FGCU, and I work full time as a 911 dispatcher for my local sheriff's office. I've had a livejournal for quite a few years now, but as you can see I'm a pretty busy girl and updating my LJ has fallen by the wayside. I've only just remembered I had a journal, and I've come back to discover that no one on my friends list still reads these nor do they even update. So.....here is to a fresh start, and meeting new people. A bit about myself, I'm a nerd at heart. I love the macabre, strange, weird, and in general the little quirks in life. I love fantasy, mythology, and history. You'll have to be patient with me while I re-learn to use my journal...as of right now, its under construction. I look forward to meeting new and interesting people

Why is love, an intrinsic part of human nature, a "confession"? Has it always been this way? Is this our punishment for separation from our g/God(s)? The fatal kink in our objectivity?
Is love what keeps us from being free? Or is freedom found in love?
And how blessed I have been, to have never loved a thing which loved me back—except for those mornings when Lhakpa’s music was too loud and I leaned over my balcony and serenaded badly, mocking that which corrupts and ultimately destroys, only to renew.
"O jaanejaa, dono jahaan, meri baahon mein-aa, bhool ja..."

Remember just a few weeks ago Warren Buffett bought BNSF outright? The press blather was predictable: "Our country's future prosperity depends on its having an efficient and well-maintained rail system."
Last night, though, while discussing an oil-poor future, my economist friend mentioned an alternative situation for buying the rail: electrification.
From The Journal of Commerce:
My friend also sent me a post from a rail site (sadly, one locked down to members only) which said:
Combine this observation with Buffett's planned wind farm facilities and one sees a definite business plan shaping up.
Buffett started as an oil man. He knows what's coming: Fuel shortages leading to ever higher fuel prices. Electric rail lines -- fed by the power lines sharing the corridor -- give him an incredible advantage, if he can get the major routes powered in time. And because he bought the rail outright, he won't have to dither about with quarterly stockholder reports. This means he can take his sweet time electrifying without worrying about "enhancing shareholder value" every few months.
Last night, though, while discussing an oil-poor future, my economist friend mentioned an alternative situation for buying the rail: electrification.
From The Journal of Commerce:
Earlier this year, BNSF Railway’s chairman, president and CEO, Matthew K. Rose, said he was in talks with transmission line companies that want to install new power lines in the railroad’s right of way. And he said BNSF was exploring whether that could help the railroad convert large parts of its sprawling western network to electricity.
Industry sources indicated other large carriers were looking at the same options, as Congress and the Obama administration push to upgrade the capacity of the U.S. electricity grid and tie in more alternative power sources including wind energy farms.
My friend also sent me a post from a rail site (sadly, one locked down to members only) which said:
If the wind- and solar-power crowd are really able to create some critical mass in their plans for mass conversion to such energy generation, transmission corridors for new high voltage lines are going to become necessary in the West. The battles for these rights-of-way are already starting to brew in several places in the West. . . .
Single steel pole towers, which are more easily situated on a railroad right-of-way than the old wider-footprint lattice-work towers, are now capable of handling up to the 765,000 volt lines being discussed for transmission from potential wind and solar fields in the West. . . .
Combine this observation with Buffett's planned wind farm facilities and one sees a definite business plan shaping up.

Action Alert from the National Coalition for LGBT Health
The federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is considering creating a dedicated Office of LGBT Health. This would be an incredible affirmation of the importance of LGBT health and would help keep LGBT health concerns high on the list of priorities for attention, funding, and programming.
HHS is expected to make this decision before Thanksgiving. Due to the tight timeline, we are asking groups and organizations to sign on to the letter below by not later than 1 PM EST tomorrow (Friday, 11/20).
If your group or organization would like to sign on, please email Kellan Baker, Policy Associate at the National Coalition for LGBT Health, at kellan@lgbthealth.net. Please do not hesitate to contact Kellan with any questions.

Color has always been a love affair to me. It’s raw and bright and real. I can touch it and it surrounds me. I used to think that it would be a gift to see the world in black and white but now I see that they are lost. You have brought me color and emotion and without you, I would be nothing. When you slip your brush across me, I become new. Your muse I am your muse I will remain. Paint me with every detail of your world. Show me your light every day. Fill me with you.
Ladies and gentlemen!

Manchester Airport rejected from 10:10 campaign
Manchester Airports Group (MAG) have been the first applicant to be rejected from the popular 10:10 campaign, which asks people, business and government to commit to cutting their carbon emissions by 10% by the end of 2010.
Although Manchester Airport is committed to becoming 'carbon neutral' by 2015, this does not include the emissions from the aircraft that land and take off from its premisies. With this in mind, their otherwise laudable efforts of installing energy efficient lightbulbs, motion sensors and biomass burners can be seen as greenwash deception – an attempt to fool the public that the airport is green, when it is actually far from it.
MAG wants to pass the buck, saying that the responsibility for aircraft emissions lies with the airlines. But with a business plan which aims to more than double passenger numbers to 50 million per year by 2030, it's obvious to everyone else, including 10:10, that the airport is also responsible for emissions by encouraging and facilitating more and more flights.
...
Let's take a look at what aviation expansion would mean for the rest of UK economy. In July 2009, the government's Committee on Climate Change reported that if we are to allow airport expansion to go ahead as planned, then the rest of the UK economy will have to decarbonise by 90% rather than 80% to meet the 2050 targets of the Climate Bill.
So everything else that we all use regularly, from electricity for lighting to fuel to heat our homes – everything else will have to make more carbon cuts to accommodate the aviation industry's insatiable appetite for growth. This would push up the cost of these changes, thus penalising essential services to accommodate the luxuries of binge flying, and exacerbating issues of fuel poverty.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question but I can't think of where else I would.
I have many crickets in my house. Let me say that they don't bother me and I oddly enough haven't been bothered by their chirping. Either I just don't hear it anymore or maybe I'm used to it.
The only thing that bothers me is sometimes when I first see one I think it's a large spider and freak out for a second or two.
I guess mostly what I want/need to know is whether I should be concerned for any reason about them.
A couple of sites I checked said they carry diseases.
Is there any other things I should be concerned about with crickets?
Should I get rid of them somehow? Or just let them be?
I don't own a dog or cat, and no small children. Just two guinea pigs.
Like I said, the crickets don't really bother me so I need to know whether I should be concerned.
Thanks
Edit:
I am almost quite sure these are "camel crickets" or "camel back crickets".
They seem quite safe but I just don't know.

Anyone have a natural toothpaste recipe to recommend? I'm searching for one on google, but a lot of them call for glycerin. I personally don't consider glycerin that natural. Anyways, a simple recipe that doesn't call for glycerin. I'd be especially interested in any recipes that you've already been using for years with good results. Any tips or advice would also be appreciated. Thank you!
From GazaFreedomMarch.org:
We're calling on activists around the globe to organize an action between December 27th through December 31st to send Obama, the US State Department and Congress a message to pressure the Israeli government to Lift the Siege on Gaza Now!
The timing here is crucial. On December 27, 2008, Israel launched an attack on the Gaza Strip called Operation Cast Lead in which over 1400 Palestinians were killed, including as many as 300 children. In remembrance of these innocent civilians and to mark the fact that it has been one year since the Israeli assault began, some 1,000 people from around the world will join with 50,000 Palestinians in a massive nonviolent Gaza Freedom March on New Year's Eve, December 31, in Gaza. The International Coalition to End the Illegal Siege of Gaza is calling on us to coordinate local solidarity actions to raise awareness and media attention for the big March and the need to end the illegal blockade. Will you join us?
Actions are already being planned in Boston, New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Calgary, Toronto, Vancouver, Washington DC and other locations. You still have time to plan something in your community. It doesn't take a lot of people. Below are a few ideas, but whatever you do, make sure you write a press release and call the local media to encourage them to attend. The best way to spread the word is to get your event covered by the local press!
The important things:
* Do something public between the 27th through 31st.
* Register your event/action here.
* Tell the press about your action.
* Take a photo and upload it here beginning December 27th.
March
You can coordinate a solidarity march with the Gaza Freedom March and carry a banner with one of our suggested slogans like "LIFT THE SIEGE ON GAZA", "FREE GAZA" or "Remember Gaza". You may even want to have all marchers lie down and make the shapes of the letters that spell out "FREE GAZA" at the end of the march for a great aerial image. In San Francisco, the Bay Area Action Network for Palestine will be marching across the Golden Gate Bridge on Dec. 31. Consider marching across a bridge in your city, to symbolize building bridges rather than walls, or march to the Israeli Embassy/Consulate, the Federal Building, or another symbolic place. Don't forget a banner and a camera!
Candlelight Vigil
Pick a very public place and organize a candlelight vigil for those who died during the invasion.
Make a visual statement at a significant place, and post your photo online
Don't worry about gathering tons of people for an action-even a small group can make a compelling visual statement in your community. You can lay out objects, like candles, scarves, flowers, to spell out your message of "LIFT THE SIEGE ON GAZA" or "FREE GAZA". Consider staging your photo in a meaningful place, like outside your Federal Building, an Israeli Embassy/Consulate, at a public park, outside a school or hospital (in memorial to the public facilities bombed a year ago), by a wall, or at your place of worship. You can also think about creating a lasting art installation that is a memorial to those who died and a call for peace. During your visual creation, you may want to read the names of Palestinian children killed one year ago, or invite local poets to read poetry or share in song. Don't forget a banner and a camera! Post your photo so it will appear online and will be available for the media.
Protest at a government office
Don't forget your Congressperson. They need to hear from you. Only 33 brave representatives refused to vote for the Congressional resolution urging Obama to throw the Goldstone Report on Gaza into the circular file. Chances are your Congressman wasn't one of them. (You can research this here by inputting your Congressperson's name, scrolling to the votes of 11/3/09, and looking for House Resolution 867). You can picket their office with signs saying "Congressman X Votes No Human Rights for Gaza. Support the Gaza Freedom March!" or "Congressman X -- End the Siege of Gaza. Support the Gaza Freedom March!" or "Honk for Human Rights for Gaza." Morning rush hour is a particularly good time for a picket -- lots of passing cars. When your picket is over, take one of your signs up to your Congressperson's office and ask the staff to give it to him/her as a message from constituents.
Organize a film showing
For $9.95, you can get a copy of Anna Balzer's incredible DVD Life in Occupied Palestine, which provides an excellent introduction-in a down-to-earth, non-alienating way-to the occupation in Palestine. See here for more details.
Another excellent film is Occupation 101, an award-winning documentary about the causes of the conflict, life under occupation, and the role of the US. You can get it for as little as $16 here. Or you can lighten it up with Slingshot Hip Hop, $25 here, a documentary about hip hop artists performing under occupation.
Host a house party
Eating is one of the easiest ways to bring people together (especially during a busy holiday season!). Host a dinner with food from the Middle East. Ask your friends to bring something along, so you don't need to cook all week. Set aside a few minutes before or after the meal to explain the latest on Gaza and the Gaza Freedom March, and then link it all together with a great group photo at the dinner table.
Do a public mural
Convene a group of artists to do a chalk sidewalk mural in a public place.
Of course, feel free to get creative and come up with your own ideas.

Hi -
My cat seems to have a bit of a dingleberry problem. He finds it embarassing, and I find it messy. Apparently, he ate some of my hair (which is longer than his), and that's causing things to hang out on the end. My poor baby. Anything I can do to assist? Feed olive oil? Something like that?
Thanks!

1. What would you use for small breakouts on a 10 year old? It started out with a few small blackheads on his nose, but now he's developing a few blocked pores on his forehead, some of which are turning into pustules.
I make him wash his face with a tea tree oil face wash, but he doesn't keep up with it, and I'm unsure as to what to use on his skin due to his age.
I'll try a steam with a warm wash cloth, but what should I put on after? I don't want it to get to the point where he starts picking, and acne runs in the family, so he'll almost certainly develop teenage breakouts; I want him to have a regime in place before that happens.
2. What do you use for eczema? I have it pretty bad on my fingers and toes, and honey heals up the split skin, but it just opens up again when I wash my hands or feet.
3. Eczema- related again. I was at my GP's office yesterday, and he mentioned a combination anti-inflammatory and steroid injection that suppresses eczema flare ups. I'm hesitant, but I read up on it, and in mainstream medicine, its apparently pretty common for skin things like eczema, and for arthritis. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks you very much:)
